Customer Bulletin: Service Delays due to Weather
23 January 2026Customer Bulletin: Service Delays due to Weather
January 23, 2026
Due to a severe cold weather and winter storm moving into Ontario and Quebec this weekend, with impacts expected to extend into Atlantic Canada early next week, customers may experience transit delays.
Both CPKC and CN have implemented standard winter safety protocols, including shortened train lengths and reduced operating speeds. These measures, while necessary, can affect network fluidity and result in service delays.
Fastfrate is closely monitoring conditions and coordinating with our rail partners. Customers can track available shipments through the Fastfrate online customer portal or contact our customer service teams.
We will continue to provide updates as conditions evolve.

Customer Advisory – Winter Weather Conditions
CPKC continues to experience significantly cold temperatures on our network from Northern Ontario through Saskatchewan in Canada as well as North Dakota and Minnesota in the United States. Temperatures below -40 degrees remain forecasted through the weekend. Cold temperatures can result in train length restrictions and reduced train speeds, as a result, customers may experience delays during this ongoing weather event.
On our southern United States network, we expect significant freezing rain activity this weekend and into Monday through the Dallas, Shreveport and Artesia subdivision areas.
Customers in all locations are reminded that during the winter months proper preparedness is important and the facilities we serve play a major safety role during challenging winter conditions. Arranging for sanding or clearing away snow or ice before our crews’ arrival and ensuring switches are cleaned and operating properly are ways that poor winter weather effects can be mitigated. Gates leading into your facility must open fully and be properly secured in all weather conditions (including when the ground is frozen) to prevent gates from swinging closed during switching operations.
CN | Navigating Winter Together | Significant Snow and Ice to Impact Plains to Mid-Atlantic
We are tracking severe winter weather in the United States including extreme cold and snow impacting the Plains to the Mid-Atlantic. A destructive storm system will bring widespread snow and ice accumulations from the Plains through the Mississippi Valley, and the East Coast into Canada late this week through the weekend.
CN is actively working to minimize disruptions while ensuring the safety of our employees.
As part of CN’s winter operating plan, when temperatures fall below -25 °C, train length is restricted following a tiered system to ensure safe operations.
Stay Safe,
CN
