The transportation industry is putting more energy into reducing its carbon footprint and we are doing our utmost to support this initiative

According to the EPA, “Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.”

Intermodal is the more fuel-efficient shipping method

Fastfrate Group is primarily an intermodal provider to Western Canada and conservatively over 60% of our tonnage moves by rail. According to studies, rail is roughly 4 times more efficient than road in the overall consumption of fuel. Trucking is making headway though and wherever we can, we implement the technologies and policies to reduce our emissions including:

  • No idle policies
  • Governors to reduce highway speed
  • Driver habit monitoring and training to reduce fuel consumption
  • Automatic transmissions
  • Late model equipment that is more energy efficient
  • Super single tires
  • Trailer side skirts on longer runs (typically 500 miles or more)
  • Long combination vehicles and alternative fuels are being tested by several of our partner carriers

Sustainability is a nationwide program at Fastfrate Group

We have taken our initiatives across the country. We utilize low energy lighting in our warehouses, incorporate company-wide recycling programs and listen to the ideas of our team members in order to reduce our energy consumption.

Going digital

The utilization of automated communication, online tools, machine learning and predictive diagnostics allows us to reduce the amount of fuel, paper and resources we consume. The more digital we go, the more efficiently we run and the more we can reduce transportation spend and energy use.
